Investing involves risk, including risk of loss of capital or total loss of capital. You should be aware of the risks of investing, just as you are aware of the risks of life. One risk of life is death, but that doesn’t stop you from living. One risk of investing is loss, but that doesn’t stop us from investing. The question, then, is this: Does risk of loss, including total loss, preclude investment?

This website contains opinions and you should question those opinions, just as we will question yours. You should be willing to change your opinions, just as we are willing to change ours. Changing opinions is difficult. That’s why our country is divided. But let’s avoid politics and discuss change, because, presumably, that’s why you’re here: to change.

It is difficult to change: either your opinions or behavior. The older you get, the more difficult it becomes. This, by the way, is the primary challenge of financial planning: most folks don’t start doing it until they are older, at which point, change is difficult. But, it’s not impossible.

The question, then, is this: Are you willing to change, even if it will be difficult?

Only you can answer that, not us.

You should drive the speed limit, wear a seat belt, get regular medical check-ups, read warning labels, look both ways before you cross the street, choose your friends wisely, wash your hands frequently, dress fabulously and love with abandon. However, loving with abandon can cause heartache.

The question, then, is this: Is it better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all?

You don’t have to answer that. Nor do you have to do financial planning. But we believe you should, because life is full of risk.

So the most important question is this: Do you want to mitigate life’s risks?
